Think about who is counting on you. You’re leading a community benefit organization and there are people out there counting on you to do your best. To help them. Perhaps save their lives. And yet, sometimes you hold back.

It’s time to get out of your comfort zone. Be bold enough.

Maybe you heard recently that the Pope mentioned he wished he could just go out for pizza without being recognized. Well, this down to earth, less formal pope is unlikely to get that wish. But pizzeria owner Enzo Cacialli decided to help him out and jogged over to the Pope-mobile as it passed by this weekend and delivered him a pizza! This might sound a little nuts, and I don’t believe he was arrested, but it also took a certain kind of courage to help out someone he holds in high regard.

What’s the last bold thing you did related to your important nonprofit mission work?

Or have you been sitting back waiting to be inspired, to get a little crazy, to go a little “out there” ? How do you find that boldness?

Here are 3 easy steps to find your courage:

1. Ask “What’s the worst that could happen?” Now the pizza guy could have been arrested, but at some point he decided it would be worth the risk. When you think about being bold for an important cause, you may not want to risk being arrested, but would you risk trying something new? Standing out from the crowd? Failing the first time? Measure the risk vs reward and be reasonable, but do not be afraid to try. People are counting on you.
2. Be resourceful. Enzo the pizza guy was likely in unchartered waters, but he surely examined the route and the best spot to jog over to the vehicle. If you’re reluctant because you don’t know how, or don’t know the right people, or can’t see what the end result might be, do some research. Is anyone else already doing it? Do an online search. Talk to others in town and get their thoughtful advice. Many people are counting on you to do your best.
3. Decide and then tell someone. In the video, you can see that Enzo the pizza guy had a team behind his shenanigans. Once you realize that your commitment to the mission is bigger than your fears, you can decide to take the first step. Tell a trusted colleague or friend your plans and it will become real. And the community will benefit from your courage.

Being bold is not difficult. It only seems that way sometimes. And you cannot be mediocre when you have so many people counting on you.

So take the first step. Find your courage. Change your mindset and change the world.  This is about way more than pizza.
